I became a professional musician in Bermuda at the tender age of 13, as the drummer and lead singer with the Dementions, where I learned to perform many different styles of music. Although I enjoyed playing drums,I began to feel more at home as a dedicated lead singer. After a few years with the Dementions I began venturing out on my own as a solo artist, where I found acclaim as “Little Sai", a stage name given to me by the late Freddie Thomas.I started performing in the local talent shows at the Rosebank Theater and night clubs, such as The Ace of Clubs, The 40 Thieves, The El Matador, and others. I travelled to the US and Canada for the first time with local bands "Adan McNally &The Bermuda Sounds" as well as Michael Clark. At age 19, I moved to Boston after being spotted by a U.S. talent agent, and there my pursuit of a music career began in earnest. After coming mainly from an R&B background, I soon began to take to rock, after listening to legends like Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the Family Stone, Led Zeppelin, that's when I began to discover who I was as an artist. Miles Davis also had a very big influence on me and my appreciation for good music.
I moved back home to Bermuda after 4yrs with an overwhelming desire to form my own band, with my own music, and to have a unique musical experience, hence the band Life Sentence was formed. This band, with whom I continue to have a musical relationship with still, after 40 yrs. In 1975 I left Bermuda to live in California where I performed with E.S.P. and other bands in Oakland and the San Francisco Bay area as a percussionist & lead singer. I’ve been back in BDA since 1986 since which the music scene has changed dramatically. In fact there isn't much of a music scene at all, but I still manage to perform from time to time and this will be one of those times, and I am really looking forward to performing in this upcoming tribute to the great musical legend, "John Lennon".
