Kassandra Gabrielle Caines is a fresh new face in the world of music. The 19 year old Bermudian has a sound that many compare to Lauryn Hill, India Arie, Yolanda Adams and more, but all agree, she has a style all her own. One of Kassandra's earliest memories is singing gospel music at her grandmother, Dame Lois Browne-Evans' 76th birthday party. The notes were flat, but her grandmother said she had a gift and encouraged her to keep singing.
Growing up in Philadelphia, Kassandra was surrounded by music throughout her childhood. She vividly recalls the soundtrack of her youth being filled with Gospel, R&B, Jazz and Reggae music. Now, she is ready to add her own style to the bustling music industry. Kassandra is known to inspire and captivate an audience with her remarkable stage presence as well as her natural ability to make a song her own.
In 2011, she won the Bermuda Gospel Festival Divine Voices Vocal Competition. As a result, she had the privilege perform a duet with the esteemed First Lady of Gospel, Pastor Shirley Caesar and opened for Gospel music icon Fred Hammond. Kassandra was invited to perform at The Premier's Concert and opened for Brian McKnight along with the Wall Street band.
What does John Lennon mean to you?
I am so excited to be involved in this tribute to John Lennon. The song "I'm Losing You" has quite possibly become one of my all time favorite songs. The lyrics of the song are so sincere and he sings it with such desperation and passion. His voice, as well as in his choice of words, made "I'm Losing You" easy for me to relate. As an artist, it is refreshing to identify passion. The passion Lennon had in his music, in my opinion, is one of the reasons he was and remains a success. His music transforms into any genre because real music has no boundaries. Lennon's music appeals to the senses and emotions. I am honored to have the opportunity to sing "I'm Losing You" and hope I am able to convey the same passion and sincerity as the late great John Lennon
