Formally trained in music and a singer/songwriter for over forty years, Michael's professional musical career began in the early sixties touring in west coast bands in the United States as a rhythm guitarist. He backed name R&B artists on the road and later found success and following as a solo artist in Texas and New Mexico, recording his first album titled "Gathering" in 1971 (an album now highly sought after by record collectors internationally). For several years, he fronted the band "Mutts On Fire" until moving to Bermuda in 2005. Michael enjoys and performs a variety of musical genre including blues, country, folk, rock, and eclectic musical forms. An artist as well as musician, he often paints and writes about the unique history of his island home. One of these original Bermuda songs, "Carved In Stone" appears on the 2010 CD "Ride The Wave".
Thoughts on John Lennon
I find it really easy to relate to John Lennon and his music since his meteoric musical career began just about the same time as my own humble musical journey, touring with my young band mates in the states. The lyrics in John's music have always been extraordinary. He showed wit, compassion and genius. And he wasn't afraid to surprise us. That's one of the reasons I felt compelled to sing "Crippled Inside", a country song written by John. This song appeared on the "Imagine" album which was released a few years before John's sail to Bermuda that rekindled his musical interests. To honour his stay on our emerald isle, I injected some island feel into the country song he was obviously very proud of. There's wit in this song, but there's also wisdom. Peace, John.
