Rachel Brown is a singer, songwriter and musician of Ethiopian and Bermudian descent, born and raised in New York City. With her guitar and ukulele, and accompanied by her talented band of African musicians, Brown fuses pop, Caribbean, Hawaiian, country, hip-hop and world sounds into a captivating groove. Brown, who graduated with honors from Harvard University in 2010, opened for the likes of Mary J. Blige and Robin Thicke at Bermuda’s National Stadium and John Legend and Quincy Jones at the 2009 Bermuda Music Festival. Brown’s music also caught the ear of one of her favorite musical influences, Wyclef Jean. Less than a week following her graduation from college, the singer received a surprise when Jean brought her up on stage to perform an impromptu duet of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” at an iMentor fundraiser. Brown was the 2010 recipient of the prestigious ASCAP Foundation Robert Allen Award for songwriting, a 2011 recipient of the Songwriter's Hall of Fame Abe Olman Award for Excellence in Songwriting, winner of the 2011 Harvard Rocks Showcase, as well as the winner of Perez Hilton’s “Can You Sing?” competition for her rendition of “Without You” by David Guetta featuring Usher.
Brown recently released an extended single featuring her award winning single “Bumblebee” as well as two other critically acclaimed songs—“Diamond in the Rough” and a live performance of “Lullaby.” The single is available at Brown’s shows and through various digital distributors. The multi-talented vocalist is also currently working on her as-yet-untitled debut album, expected to be released in early 2012.
